Black Media honors Inaugural Awards Season Building a Community of Black Excellence

On August 21st and 22nd, The Black Media Honors™ celebrated its Inaugural award season. On August 21st, attendees got to learn and build on knowledge with a "Behind the Press" Consortium. It was a day-long, multi-panel discussion with key media professionals, public relations professionals, celebrities, minority-business owners, and influencers. The overall goal of the panel discussions was to create an ongoing dialogue on how professionals in this industry could not only change but control the narrative of African Americans and American minorities in media.


On August 22nd, The Black Media Honors™ Gala was held. The event was hosted by Pastor Anthony Murray and actress Brely Evans. It was a formal black-tie event that recognized leaders and trailblazers in the fields of media and public relations. Some of the recognitions included those who ran the best public relations campaigns, journalists, organizations, initiatives, culture-focused broadcast networks, and programs that pay particular attention to societal issues and values. The Black Media Honors™also gave recognition to exceptional college students majoring in public relations, media, mass communication, journalism. It included musical performances from Stellar Award Winners Christina Bell and Y’Anna Crawley. Many celebrities were in attendance as presenters and to give accolades to those who received honors. Some of the stars in attendance were Gary With The Tea, B2K’s Raz B, Drea Kelly, Pastor Jamal Bryant, Kelly, Syleena Johnson, Ms. Juicy, mother of Trayvon Martin, Sybrina Fulton, and the mother of Sandra Bland, Geneva Reed-Veal.







Our very own Founder of Media Girls on Tour and Media Girls Network, Jelisa Cook, won the prestigious honor of Media TrailBlazer.




After the Gala concluded, attendees enjoyed the sounds of the Anthony Hamilton Experience, which Britni Moore hosted on behalf of Media Girls On Tour. The audience got a first listen to his upcoming album. The awards show will air on AspireTV's digital platform "In the Loop."
